where everybody looks like ants

this song is slowly getting me through exams.

i love ingrid's voice, and i prefer her collaboration with jason mraz
much more than to the male voice on the cd version.

(maybe because jason mraz is super sexy?)

i don't know.
anyway... this is just great.

so zac efron is on the cover of the november issue of nylon guys and he looks GOOOOOD
i'm not going to even try to lie and say that i don't have a large,
not-so-secret-anymore crush on him.

i mean, seriously. no human being attracted to the male sex
could have anything to criticize
[thanks to our ohso superficial obsession with physical good looks].
honestly, i never really cared about his intelligence,
and (perhaps unjustly?) made an assumption that he probably didn't have any.

that being said, he made a impressively observant comment in the interview and i was quite impressed:

"this was an industry that once thrived on exposure. today i find that the most interesting people are hidden"

i wholeheartedly agree.

kudos, z. efron.
maybe you aren't just a pretty, (ohso pretty) face?

i've been looking forever for a nice, big laptop bag.
my dad gave me a black velcro accountant-type... but i can't bring myself to use it.
i found this one on and it's exactly what i've been looking for!
(for an EMBARRASSING fraction of the price)

i used to have an electric blue version,
but it broke and probably wouldn't have fit my
inconveniently large laptop.

ughhh...anyone know where i can get a new onee?

i know it's coming a little late... but heres a photo of my costume...
just like everyone else, i largely have american apparel to thank for my costume
(i went for the gaga get-up)

i feel inclined to start having themed parties again
because i forgot how fun it is to dress-up!

new heights

my friends are constantly trying to get me to wear heels.

i find them fantastic, but haven't quite mastered the proper strut
(nonetheless after a few glasses of wine!)

i feel as though if i had some like as amazing as these...
i would feel more inclined to risk my pride and go for the BOLD.

midterms are the worst.

this, however, (discovered on kanye's blog a while back)
is the best.

and why people should give a shit.

ja ja jaa!

this weekend for thanksgiving i found myelf
out of ottawa and a ferry-ride into quebec
at chateau montebello.
it was my grandmother's 80th birthday
and so all 24 of us (on my mom's side) gathered
to celebrate!
even though i wasn't able to bring any leftovers
back to guelph... it was a great weekend!
(complete with family-wide basketball game.
competition runs high within the hooper clan)
photographic proof of the weekend!

let the wild rumpus start!

this is a post i've been meaning to write for a while...
(as my anticipation has been climbing to unforeseen heights
ever since i found out about it last year)

but the release of WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE is finally almost a week away!!

the pairing of my favorite children's book with an acoustic version of one of my favorite
arcade fire songs for the trailer basically makes my life complete!

the soundtrack is bananas!
(i don't think i've ever used this expression before. first time for everything?)

every song (all by karen o and the kids) is perfect
and this whole project just makes my love for spike jonze grow tenfold!

this is my favorite thus far:

oh! i'll eat you up, i love you so!

i was in toronto this past weekend visiting my sister (photos to come)
and on my way to the bus station to come home,
i made a stop in at h&m.

as always, i found some wonderfully cheap items...
but being that i am attempting to budget myself this semester,
i landed in line with only two items: a pair of light denim leggings with ankle zippers
and a thick, knit winter headband.

i was two spots away from the cash...when i thought of my dad
and how disappointed he would be with my spending habits on frivolous, unnecessary
items (he doesn't necessarily view fashion as a living staple).

so i ducked out of line and surrendered my goods and booked it out of the store
before i could talk myself back into it.

(jean + leggings = jeggings?)

i'm dying inside. all i want to do is go back and get them, so much so,
that i'm trying to devise a way that i can get to h&m during my one hour stop over
next weekend on my way home for thanksgiving.

i'm hopeless.

sometimes when i feel as though i need some inspiration
(you know when you feel like your entire wardrobe is on mute or repeat or something?)
i go to lookbook to try to get some ideas.
anyway, i stumbled upon this girl,
rockie nolan, who is unreal.
her photos are ethereal and her style makes me green!
(with envy... not illness)
check her out!
these are some of my favorites:

i've pretty much let this blog go by the wayside, so: a new post!

this weekend i was talking to my friend kohen about our shared love
for the smiths (his love is next level),

and i told him to see (500) days of summer.

mado and i watched it last week and it was great.

(obviously though. zooey deschanel + joseph gordon-levitt + the smiths = my life).

here's a trailer for all ya'll.
my sister's friend said that in the opening scene of the trailer, zooey reminds her of me.
i'm not sure if it's accurate...
but i'm flattered nonetheless!

also she & him does an amazing cover of
please, please, please let me get what i want (by the smiths obvs).
check it out if you can!

despite the fact that i'm really excited to get back to all my friends
in guelph... i'm sad to be leaving ottawa!

i always start off my summers with grandiose ideas as to how
i'm going to spend my free time, and at the end of every summer,
hardly any of these ideas are realized!

however, i find that i don't really mind.

on thursday mado, erica, jacob, rowan and i went
to rowan's cottage near blue sea lake and it was one of the best
weekends (pseudo-weekend?) of the summer!

we hiked half an hour to the camping spot and set up camp by the water,
went swimming, played cards, jammed by the fire (despite the fact that
i had no musical talents to offer up!) and definitely did a little
damage to our livers.

it was such a great way to end off the summer, and i'm going
to miss my friends so much!!

[jacob's headed to australia in a month and i won't see him for almost a year!]

sim summa

hello all!
i'm sorry i've been on such a hiatus!
for a while this summer, i thought of stopping this blog because i wasn't sure
if i was very into it...
and then i realized that this blog is the best way for me to
de-stress during the school year.

since school is right around the corner... i shall resume!

my summer in some snapshots:

seen in 2 weeks:
- yeah yeah yeahs
- ben harper and the relentless 7
- thunderheist
- mother mother
- xavier rudd
- iron and wine
- paolo nutini
- handsome furs
- the dead weather
- land of talk
- the balconies
- jenn grant
- girl talk
- toots and the maytals + so many more!

hanging out with the best!
postscript: sorry this was so half-assed... i'm still getting back into the groove!

shit scared

last night, laura and i cycled over to the mayfair
to see polytechnique.

the movie is a re-enactment of the Montreal shooting
on dec.6, 1989 at l'institut polytechnique, where Marc Lepine killed 14 women
before killing himself.

i have never been so affected and terrified by a movie.
all 77 minutes were riveting and debilitating and i recommend
this film to anyone.

writing this honestly reminds me of how appalling and horrifying
the experience was watching it last night.

everyone: see it.

saturday was the 'great glebe garage sale' in my neighborhood, otherwise known as
the glebe, and i

it was $5!!

and while i'm not quite sure if it works yet, it's a singer
which is amaaze.

more than amped about this.

maybe now i can get to my summer plans of making great items?
i hope so.

jenny hates kate nash...

and so begged me to remove the song on the side of the blog.

i then gave her permission to remove it herself,
and she did.

sorry i've been gone for a while, i've been soaking up the first few days of my
summer sans computer, and it's been magical.

in one very short starter week, i ventured to toronto with mado and jes
to see kings of leon
went to harley's cottage for an epic three days of rural madness.

summer all around thus far?

some pictures to personify the cottage trip:

i'm betting you can figure out what the main activity of the weekend was.

now that i'm down to my last exam (tomorrow!)

i'm thinking a heck of alot about summer.
so i compiled a to-do list:

spend a whole lot of time with
my wonderful friends

brush up on
my sewing skills
(maybe acquire some?)

take more pics with a holgaaa!!
(that i will soon be buying!)

self explanatory.

good luck with the rest of your exams!!

back for a bit

soo i watched this terrible show on cosmotv last night
(the only decent channel we get because it plays sex & the city constantly)
called vanity lair... it's about beautiful, shallow people competing for a cash prize.
this is not about the contestants however,
it's about the host:

alexa chung.
she's a british former model and current t.v. presenter
(who is dating alex turner, frontman of ARCTIC MONKEYS)
which is just basically amazing.

she is half chinese and all around stunning.

of course, she is also a fashion maaa-ven!

consider girl crush: fully formed.

! muy bueno !

desktop blues

mi padre insisted on getting me a desktop computer for school,
claiming they are better quality...
and lo and behold... guess what happens?

it legitimately self-destructs.        fan-effing-tastic!

so i'm currently laptop hopping between all of my roommates...

thus, ze blog will just have:

hear ye hear ye.

here at guelph, i am an international development student with an emphasis
on gender and development. thus, i take many women's studies courses.

i think that women's studies has been getting a bad rep recently (even my female friends find it daunting and overwhelming).

i, however, risking the fact that i will be dubbed a raging feminist, or be associated with some sort of 'bra burning' ritual... am very much a proponent of this field of study.

you understand then, when i heard that they are trying to get rid of the women's studies program at guelph, i was pissed!

i think this is insulting and preposterous
and could frankly, in my opinion, fall into the category of bigotry.

(i also recently heard a rumour that the president of the university recently upped
his salary by $100,000...and women's studies is being cut because of a depressing budget!
for the love!)

there's a rally today at 1pm at the cannon,
anyone in guelph come and fight for the future women's studies!

going for the gold (but don't make it look like you're trying TOO hard)

i've been showing this to pretty much everyone who
i know would appreciate it.

it's ah-mazing.

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

i've really been hit by the lovebug recently.
not a legit one... then i'd really have something to blog about

(that's complete jokes. i hope to g-o-d that i would never
'roses are red, violets are blue'
my love life.)

this one is about mado.
she is my best friend in the entire world...
and she is currently passed out from too much sangria
on the couch outside my room.
(which is the greatest point of interest of this entire post).

despite the fact that we were roommates in residence, and currently
reside in the same house in guelph...
when we get back to ottawa we hardly ever miss a day of seeing each other
and most certainly don't miss a day without some sort of communication.

she be the maybe to ma george michael
and the itch to ma biiiiitch.

all this climaxes (maybe wrong word choice?) to the wonderful line
she fed me on the phone during the summer:

"wouldn't it be funny if i had alzheimers and called you every twenty minutes?"

no, mado, it wouldn't be funny.
but i'd fucking put up with it.

she so fresh.

Thursday, March 12, 2009

oh how do i love thee? let me blog the ways!

i've recently been thinking an awful lot about my 2006 summer.
this is when i met my best friends jenny morris (
and scarlett smith.

we met at a leadership seminar in victoria, b.c. - one of the most beautiful places i have ever been-
and it turned into a romance!

anyway, i love these girls. and i have been thinking an awful lot about them
and so i wanted to acknowledge what they mean to me.

c'est tout!

jenny (who is soon going to need her own chapter in this blog)

the lovelyy scarlett.
